Your conscious mind is the "tip of the iceberg". I use techniques that are designed to elicit information from the subconscious mind. It is estimated that approximately 12% of the human brain is used consciously, while the rest operates automatically, or outside of our conscious awareness. We often experience this as feeling a certain way, but we don't know why. We can also experience physical sensations that indicate subconscious instincts or drives. I use a variety of techniques including:

-Body Psychotherapy is bringing awareness to physical ailments and "listening" to what they are trying to tell us about what is going on emotionally. For more information, visit the United States Association for Body Psychotherapy.

-Hypnosis is a guided relaxation that induces a natural state of consciousness in which a person is neither awake nor asleep and the brain is receptive to positive suggestions. For more information, visit the American Society for Clinical Hypnosis.

-Creative Expression allows one to share thoughts and emotions that may be difficult to verbalize. Writing, drawing, sculpting, and music are among the many tools for accessing creativity. For more information, visit the National Coalition for Creative Arts Therapies Associations.

-DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) is a set of skills designed to help sensitive persons to cope with life more effectively using mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. This therapy is the basis for the Wise Women group, but is not exclusive to the women or the group. Men can equally use these skills and the skills may be learned in individual sessions.

-EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a technique that uses bi-lateral eye movement to stimulate right and left brain communication to release thoughts that are stuck as a result of trauma. For more information, visit the EMDR Institute.

-Temperament Testing measures the aspect of personality that we are born with indicating what our natural strengths and weaknesses are. For more information, visit Dr. Keirsey's site. Or just go straight to the test here.
